It’s been a bad month for the world of melodic rock as we lose two musicians way before their time…
Shaun Kirkpatrick guitarist with Bronz passed away suddenly aged just 56. R.I.P
While popular AOR songwriter Brett Walker also tragically and shockingly passed away. R.I.P
Given this sad news it would seem the recently announced ‘Straight Jacket Vacation’ will be the final album from Brett. It will be released via AOR Heaven on 30th August.
We also lost legendary studio man and producer Mike Shipley. Mike leaves a legacy of an extremely varied body of well respected work, but is well loved amongst the melodic rock community.
Tyketto have announced a string UK dates to celebrate their 25th anniversary next year. They will also have popular German melodic rockers Bonfire in tow as support. They raise the roof at Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall on Saturday 22nd March 2014
Reuben Archer’s Personal Sin have just released a video for the first single from the album ‘Play My Rock ‘n’ Roll’. It’s due out digitally from July 22nd with the album out on 19th August. Check it out below.
There has been a venue change for the upcoming warm up show from Rage Of Angels. Originally planned to be happening at Lucy’s Bar in Hednesford on 12th September it has now been moved to The Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton. Tickets will be available directly from the Wolves Civic Box Office.
You know how some bands just make you think of Spinal Tap? Despite two excellent albums from Escape this UK melodic rock act seem plagued with problems. They cancelled their appearance at this year’s HRH AOR, then vocalist Stevie K left the band, then they cancelled their live shows in May and then they announced Rick Chase as their new frontman. On July 1st, Escape’s label Z Records announced Stevie K was back in the band! Let’s see where the rollercoaster takes us next.
Queensryche have just announced they will be playing Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Sunday October 13th. This is the version of the band with Todd La Torre on vocals! Tickets on sale now!
Howling mad shitheads Wolfsbane are headlining the Tamworth Rock Festival on August 17th. It takes place on Tamworth Castle grounds and is totally free! Sounds good to me!
The Almighty have revealed they will finally re-issue their first two albums Blood, Fire and Love and Soul Destruction in September. They will have special bonus features more details on that will be revealed soon.
Brummie melodic rockers Daylight Robbery have announced they have parted ways with drummer Ben Dixon citing musical differences as the reason why. Joining the guys on drums now is Gary Reece, who joins from August onwards.
Greek rockers Danger Angel have just released their second official video from their album Revolutia. Check out ‘Not An Angel’ below, the footage was taken from the bands recent European tour supporting Jeff Scott Soto.

Greek progressive melodic metallers Until Rain will release their new album Anthem to Creation in August via Escape Music.
Popular Swedish melodic rockers H.E.A.T have announced they have parted company with guitarist Dave Dalone. Dalone has left the band to seek musical challenges elsewhere. The band will continue on as a five piece and will not be actively seeking a replacement for Dalone. This announcement will not affect the band’s proposed live dates or delay the release of their next album due for early 2014.
A tour entitled ‘The Hair Band Extravaganza’ hits the UK in October – the tour features Tuff, Shameless and Stala & So. The most important date on this tour is the 8th October when the extravaganza hits Moochers in Stourbridge.

The much discussed re-recording of Harem Scarem’s classic album Mood Swings has been finished and a release date set. Mood Swings II will be unleashed on the 27th of September via Frontiers Records. You can check out some sound bytes below including one of the brand new bonus songs.
King Kobra have released a video for their song ‘Have A Good Time’ check it out below. It’s taken from their new album II which is out now.
Escape Music will re-issue Tommy Denander’s three Radioactive albums. The trio of albums will be released in one triple disc package in September. They will not only be re-mastered but also re-worked and remixed and of course will feature bonus tracks to make the set even tastier.
The Giuntini Project have unveiled a video for the track ‘Born In The Underworld’ from the album IV. The album is out now via Escape Music and this track features legendary vocalist Tony Martin, check out the video below, enjoy!
UK rockers Night by Night have just released a video for ‘The Moment’. The track will be released as a digital single from August 5th. You can see the band live supporting Y&T this autumn including a date at The Robin in Bilston on September 17th.

Midlands based rockers Trigger have just released a new digital single ‘Rise From The Ashes’. It’s an all new song which isn’t featured on their last album Infinite Persistence and is available from all the usual download sites. If you’re already a fan, you’ll love this track – a powerful rocker with an anthemic chorus, very old school metal to these ears, melodic with a thunderous backbeat.
House of Shakira will release their upcoming album Pay To Play via Melodic Rock Records on September 23rd. This will be the second album featuring Andreas Novak on vocals.
Legendary cult Canadian rockers Coney Hatch will release their reunion album Four in September via Frontiers Records. It marks the first album of new music from the band in over two decades and after their performance at Firefest 2011 this release has become highly anticipated. Newman has announced Joel Peters (Tainted Nation) will be there new bass player following the departure of David Bartlett. He joins fellow Tainted Nation band member and current Newman drummer Pete Newdeck completing the live line-up.
Sweden’s Houston caused a major stir with their debut album a few years ago. Not only universally popular in the music press they forged a loyal fan base after touring the UK and even a surprise inclusion (well it was a surprise to me!) at Download Festival. They are back with a new album inventively entitled II which will be released via Livewire/Cargo Records on September 2nd. You can check out the official video for their first digital single from it ‘I’m Coming Home’ below.
Popular Swedish hard rockers Coldspell will release their new album Frozen Paradise via Escape Music on September 20th.
LaValle’s album Insanity will finally get released via Kivel Records on August 20th. This release which features Carsten Schultz (Vocals), Paul Logue (bass) of Eden’s Curse and of course namesake guitarist Eddie LaValle has been highly anticipated since it was announced earlier in the year.
International Melodic Metallers Eden’s Curse have finally announced their new Mark III line-up. Joining founder members Paul Logue, Peter Newdeck and Thorsten Koehne is new Serbian vocalist Nikola Mijic and Powerquest keyboardist Steve Williams. Their fourth album Symphony Of Sin will be released on AFM records on October 4th. It will be preceded by a digital single – ‘Evil & Divine’ and the music video for it should be online soon!
Romeo’s Daughter have recorded and released a new video for their song ‘Alive’. It’s taken from their triumphant comeback album Rapture which is still on regular playback on my stereo! Remember the Romeo’s hit Brum on October 6th at The O2 Academy.
Frontiers Records are about to unleash another AOR super group of sorts upon us – LRS. The band is named after its principal members Tommy LaVerdi (21 Guns), Josh Ramos (The Storm / Hardline) and Michael Shotton (Von Groove), L – R – S get it? Frontiers in-house studio man Alessandro Del Vecchio is producing the debut album which is scheduled for an early 2014 release date.
Rock Candy have another half a dozen re-issue goodies lined up for August including some AOR gems. Look out for White Sister S/T, Streets S/T and Crimes In Mind, Gamma 1, Airborne S/T and Steve Stevens Atomic Playboys.
We already know Reckless Love are touring the UK in September/October including a show at The Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton on 6th October. It will be in support of their new album Spirit which is out on the 2nd of September via Spinefarm records. A video and single for ‘So Happy I Could Die’ will also follow in the Autumn.
Pomp masters Arc Angel have just released a video to accompany their forthcoming album due out on Frontiers Records at the end of August. Check out ‘Harlequins Of Light’ below

Frontiers Records have announced the popular project Place Vendome will return for a third album Thunder in the Distance to be release in November. Once again the project features Michael Kiske on vocals and songs contribute by Magnus Karlsson, Alessandro Del Vecchio, Tommy Denadner and Soren Kronqvist amongst others. Were promised an album very much in the melodic hard rock vein we have come to expect from the Place Vendome project which will feature the following songs ‘My Heart Is Dying’, ‘Fragile Ground’, ‘Break Out’, ‘Maybe Tomorrow’, ‘Power Of Music’, ‘Lost In Paradise’, ‘Hold Your Love’ and ‘It Can’t Rain Forever.
