The 2nd album from the deity-desecrating bulldozer of buggery…

Baptizing their 2012 debut full length Sodomatik Rites Of I.N.R.I. – I.N.R.I. being the Latin inscription Iēsus Nazarēnus, Rēx Iūdaeōrum (“Jesus the Nazarane, King of the Jews”) – left no doubt in anyone’s mind exactly what Finland’s Wömit Angel were all about: blasphemy, Satanism, and sodomy. A slavering and squalid slab of sadistic blackened, thrashened, punkened metal, it was blunt, brutal, ruthlessly offensive, and disgustingly delightful. Two years later and that deity-desecrating bulldozer of buggery is back with the thoroughly foul and thoroughly fantastic Holy Goatse.

Raw and rabid with a densely heavy production, the album retains the punky Motörhead influence (hence the “ö” in the band’s evil moniker) as well as the walls-of-ire brutality of black metal present on the first album and takes it up a few notches. A Gregorian chant to open proceedings, like the blood spilling from a sacrificial animal (or child or virgin, depending on your chosen form of devilish devotion), the malevolent aggression embodied in their savage sound flows from beginning to end.

Dark lyrics about serial killers, necrophilia, mass murder in the name of god, etc., are delivered in nine short ejaculations of ferocious glee. Compounded by sadomasochistic sounds from horror films, news reports, and violent porn, Holy Goatse leaves a fetid stench in the air, a vile taste in the mouth, and a deeply harrowing, nauseous, and heavy feeling in the gut as the closing title track leaves us twitching in a blooded, helpless heap.
