Brain-bleeding brutality in 6 to 66 seconds…
Pondered upon (very quickly) by Jason Guest
Released by Nuclear War Now! Productions (Website, Facebook) on 1 August 2018
Nuclear War Now!’s usual bile is of the black and death metal variety with the odd bit of thrash and doom mixed into the murky mucus. Along come noise destroying duo Sissy Spacek with album number too-many-to-mention (seriously, check their discography here and here!) and NWN wisely sign ‘em up for the release of Ways of Confusion.
39 tracks – only one of which goes over the one-minute mark – of grind-blasted noise, prepare to be pummelled into oblivion. I would wager that this duo make bets with each other as to how much they can pack into such short a space of time. At the one end of the extreme, tracks 7, 12 and 13 – ‘Sleeping Assistant’, ‘Usain Bolt’, and ‘Braking’, respectively – are 6-second bursts of grunts, growls, feedback, electronic noise and drum pummelling. Track 35, ‘All Walks’ is 1-second longer only because of the 1, 2 count. Track 39, ‘Alphabets’, at 1-minute and 10-seconds sits at the other end and is stuttered blast after stuttered blast of brain-bleeding brutality.
I wouldn’t dare call this music. I don’t know what the fuck it is. But it’s fucking good. It’s taken you longer to read this than listen to the whole thing. Stop wasting your time and give it a blast. Then you’ll see what all the confusion’s about.
