Ahead of their upcoming UK & European tour dates, powerhouse vocal duo The War And Treaty have signed their first major record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville.
The husband-and-wife team of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter are recording now, with new music expected later this year. Watch The War And Treaty celebrate their signing with UMG Nashville here.
The news follows The War And Treaty’s recent Americana Honors nomination for “Duo/Group of the Year” and honouring Ray Charles with a performance of his iconic track, “You Don’t Know Me,” during the late singer’s induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame which can be viewed here.
The award-winning Nashville-based band will make their Glastonbury Festival debut this summer when they perform on Field Of Avalon Stage on June 24th. Their Glastonbury appearance will come at the end of the husband-and-wife duo’s debut UK & Irish tour, which includes shows at London’s Jazz Café and Black Deer Festival. With over 40 performances internationally and stateside, the duo “unleash waves of raw emotion” (No Depression) that continue “flooring music festival crowds” (Wide Open Country).
“Tanya and I are truly excited to be playing the UK & Ireland,” says Michael. “It’s been on our bucket list for the longest and finally we get to bring the revival. Get your feet ready to stomp and your voices ready to be raised, The War And Treaty are coming!”

Since forming in 2014, The War And Treaty have amassed a following as eclectic as their sound itself, a bluesy but joyful fusion of Southern soul, gospel, country, and rock-and-roll. Their 2018 debut album Healing Tide saw The War And Treaty named Emerging Act of the Year by the Americana Music Association. The follow-up, 2020’s Hearts Town – the duo’s adoring nickname for their ardently devoted fanbase – won them the 2021 International Folk Music Awards “Artist of the Year” accolade. The War And Treaty performed at the 2020 Grammy Awards alongside icons like Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Gary Clark Jr. and Common in a tribute to Grammy executive producer Ken Ehrlich. Last April they joined Dierks Bentley for a performance of U2’s “Pride (In the Name of Love)” for the 56th Academy of Country Music Awards.
