From sexuality to sacrifices and boiling up men…
Blasphemy, Satanism, and sodomy, three parts of the unstable diet of Finnish audio-vomitors Wömit Angel. With their second album Holy Goatse released in September, vocalist/bassist W.Horepreacher took time out to talk to MR’s Jason Guest about all things unholy…
Hi and thank you for taking time out for this interview and congratulations on Holy Goatse (reviewed here).
Hi, W.Horepreacher representing Wömit Angel here. Thank you for these questions. Always a pleasure.
Holy Goatse is Wömit Angel’s second full-length. What did you want to achieve with it? Were there any specific goals that you set yourselves?
We felt that time was right to spit out some more slime in the ether. We do this thing solely on feeling bases. No specific goals but to express ourselves.
Did you have an idea of how you wanted the album to sound or did each of the tracks and the whole thing take shape as it was being developed?
Entity developed from single tracks. They just mingled perfectly together. I think we got good punk/groove to our audio-vomit.
How did you approach composition for the album? Is there a process that Wömit Angel follows, such as lyrics first, then guitars, etc…?
Guitar riffs and then drums. Lots of rehearsal and reforming. I usually do the lyrics afterwards. Sometimes some vocal parts rule the rhythm of etc. verse…
Can you tell us about the album title, its meaning and its relationship to the music?
Haha, awesome title eh! I thought it was catchy and vile. Black satanic torment does not stand up from the mass! Holy Goatse – stretching and ripping the Heavens until it bleeds down on Earth.
Is there a theme, a concept, or a philosophy that underpins the album?
Vile nature of man. Fuck! We are the sickest motherfuckers ever to walk on earth. Roman Empire knew how to fuck things up, from sexuality to sacrifices and boiling up men… My kind of centuries indeed!
What are the lyrical themes? And where does inspiration come from?
I like to write about the World surrounding me. Dark nature of man. After all that is what represents Hell on the surface! Short and simple.
The artwork for the album is ugly as hell! Can you tell us about the design and what it represents? Who’s the artist? And why did you choose to work with him/her?
Cover is actually a photograph. At the photo shoot we got drunk and messed around. It’s hard to actually take a photo of Holy Goatse and the Pope was not answering my phone calls either, haha! So there you go. Ugly cover to suit the shit inside!
Which is more important to Wömit Angel, the music or the lyrics?
Music comes first! No doubt about it.
How did you come to work with Inverse Records? And do you plan to stay with them for future releases?
Inverse got in touch with us during second demo and we’ve been stuck with them ever since. We share the same wavelength or something. No complaints whatsoever…
What does the future hold for Wömit Angel? Early days I know as the album was released in September but is there more music in the pipeline?
We are recording few new songs for a internet release in December this year. Stay tuned. It’s killer stuff.
Any gigs, tours or festivals planned? And will we be seeing you in England any time soon?
We are currently occupied by other projects and activities. I mix and produce black metal for other groups in the underground and so on… England would be nice. Let’s what happens…
Thanks again for taking time out for this interview. Do you have any closing words for our readers?
Thank you for the interest. Sorry about all the mistakes in the text. I am a bit drunk at the moment. Background music is by Sacrificium Carmen. Go check’em out! (Facebook; Bandcamp)
