Geezer Butler to be honoured on Birmingham’s Walk Of Stars

Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler is to be honoured with a star on Birmingham’s Walk Of Stars. Geezer will receive his award in a ceremony at Villa Park during the half-time break in the Aston Villa v Burton Albion match on Saturday 3rd February.

The announcement follows a two year campaign led by Mohammed Osama Ahmed for Geezer’s involvement in Black Sabbath to be recognised. A founding member of the band along with Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward, Geezer was a crucial element of the band’s success. A huge horror and sci-fi fanatic, it was Geezer who was responsible for suggesting the band name, and writing the majority of the lyrics for the band in their early years.

Geezer’s star at the Broad Street site, will now join those of fellow band mates Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi, who received theirs in 2007 and 2008 respectively. 26804836_2008043192780812_8127484488778906559_n

As a lifelong Villa fan, it should prove to be a special day as it also marks 50 years since the birth of the supergroup that defined heavy metal and put Birmingham on the map.
