Corybantic, caustic, squalid, blunt, brutal, blasphemous, and sickeningly satisfying, Wömit Angel’s 2012 first full length Sodomatik Rites Of I.N.R.I., the 2014 follow up Holy Goatse (reviewed here) and the 2015 EP Maggotmouth (reviewed here)have long been nailed irremovably into many a pernicious playlist. And rightly – or should that be wrongly? – so. Malevolence and aggression are so rarely rendered so beautifully. 2017 and very big hammer and very big nails in hand, the band are back with another slab of their odorous outpourings to firmly fix into the face of all things pure and pious.
Death (of course), destruction (naturally), devilish dedication (essential), and deflowering the devoted (well…) amongst the themes, it’s business as usual for the Finnish free-piece. As rabid and raw as their previous releases, it’s black metal meets punk meets Motörhead with plenty blood, guts and faecal matter to go around in 12 evil ejaculations that leave a stale taste in the mouth, a farty smell in the nose, and an unnerving feeling that you did something wrong, possibly criminal, during the dreadfully drunken night before but can’t remember quite what it was…
And again, the unwanted and unruly shepherd that is Wömit Angel have returned to ake you lie down in scorched pastures, to leadeth you to still waters for torture and cast your soul, unrestorable, down that path of wrongeousness. The rod and the staff as their devices of fiendish torment, their cup runnething over with purulent piss and blackened blood, nastiness and mercilessness doth dwell in this band’s lightless dungeon. Book a ticket. Front row. You’ll enjoy it. You never know, GG Allin might make a special guest appearance as principal poop pitcher…
