Experimental duo Wax on Water have just released this five track EP, Ghouls & Fiends and In-Betweens…, that builds on the success of their second album The Drip, released earlier this year to some acclaim. The London based duo, consisting of Maya Damaris and Steven Blessing, have an eclectic sound and style that blends elements of industrial, electronic and goth inspired music with the end result being something that is truly unique.
The EP leads off with ‘Ghouls & Fiends’, with Maya’s ethereal and seductive vocals set against a trippy musical backdrop. ‘Guanciale (Mark of the Vampire)’ is a much more darker and sinister number with Steven’s hypnotic riffs perfectly suiting the mood. ‘Deadbeat Guy’ is another enchanting song that has an addictive melody and is probably the stand out number of the five.
There is something very intriguing about Wax on Water, they have a very contemporary sound that nevertheless could easily have been spawned in the 70’s. There is no doubt much more to come from the engaging duo and this latest set of songs set whets the appetite for 2023 and beyond.
