The black metal legends curl another one out…
Excreted through Hells Headbangers on 22 July 2016 and chomped on here by Jason Guest
With a few seconds of cymbal flourishes signifying the rising flames, blasphemy-laced blackness in all its unholy bastard bastardness spews forth in a bunch of raw, primitive and barbaric tracks of such deformity and depravity that were the church to get their mitts on this, any priest that came into contact with The Curling Flame of Blasphemy would welcome the devil into his house of worship with open arms and a biscuit, thanking Profanatica for destroying their faith completely.
The bulldozer riffs are relentless, leaving a trail of misshapen and warped melodies cemented against a backdrop of drums that sound like nails being hammered through bone into stone and a bass whose tones emanate from the very depths of hell’s cellar while something that I suspect is a voice barks its inhuman scorn. This is ugly. Very ugly. As ugly as a gargoyle’s gaping groin after a tête-à-tête with a seductive snake with particularly pointy incisors.
Profanatica’s first full length Profanatitas De Domonatia released in 2007 (a long time after their formation, disbandment and eventual reunion) was blasphemous and obnoxious, it was black metal incarnate. So too were 2010’s Disgusting Blasphemies Against God and 2013’s Thy Kingdom Cum, both of which had Profanatica wielding their artillery with an unyielding determination to destroy the deified one and his herd.
With obsidian atmospherics framing the gleeful desecration that pervades this perverted piece of work, though some of the tracks blur into one, their simple-but-savage approach has served them well in the past and with The Curling Flame of Blasphemy, continues to do so. Stick it on, turn it up and laugh at the nuns that run from the burning buildings that house that most unhealthy of institutions. An unholy pleasure.
