Bloodstock in association with Hobgoblin continue to support the Unsigned scene with their Metal 2 The Masses competition across the UK and beyond.
With events already under way in the capital, venues around the country are gearing up for some hotly contested rounds of underground metal with a coveted slot at Bloodstock Open Air 2017 up for grabs, plus many regional rounds are also offering extra prizes such as studio time, PR support and photo shoots. Here in the Midlands the anticipation is stronger than ever with M2TM events in Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Leicester, Nottingham, Northampton and Coventry.
Widely regarded as the Home of Heavy Metal, Birmingham’s M2TM is held at The Roadhouse. The first heat will be held on Wed. 1st March. In it’s 6th year, The Roadhouse has produced some of the best Finals with sell out crowds seeing the likes of Kataleptic, Gehtika, Eradikator, Burden of The Noose and The Face of Ruin go on to play the New Blood Stage.
With so many bands in the West Midlands desperate to have a shot at getting to Bloodstock, Matt at Mayhem Promotions decided to bring M2TM to Wolverhampton. 2017 will be the third year, and will return to the popular Giffard Arms right in the heart of the city. Previous winners are Husk and XVII. First heat is 9th Feb.
Staying in the West Midlands we have a new venue added to the ever growing roster. The Arches has gained a reputation for being one of the best small venues in the country. The 350 capacity room is a popular stopping off point for many touring underground bands in the metal, punk and rock scenes. The venue along with it’s in house promotion team, Fargo Tours have joined forces with FATangel and a new initiative Underground Ascending to give a home to Coventry M2TM. You may know FATangel as Chris and Angel who run the Bloodstock Signing tent as well as their PR and Promotions company. They put on a number of events, particularly the Mosh Against Cancer weekender at The Arches, whilst The Underground Ascending is a new project from Gehtika front man Anthony Knight, set up to help develop the unsigned scene in the region. This latest addition to the M2TM Family kicks off at The Arches on Thursday 26th January
This will be the second year Leicester has hosted M2TM. Heats will be contested at two venues in the City centre, Duffy’s Bar and Firebug, with the final taking place at the iconic De Montfort Hall as part of the Uprising weekend. Promoters Resin Events have gained a reputation has being one of the best to work with, their gigs at Firebug and Duffy’s are very popular with fans and bands alike, and last years inaugural final was one of the most anticipated gigs of the year with the highly rated Conjurer eventually winning. With the prospect of not only playing at Bloodstock, but also having a shot at playing on the big stage at De Monfort Hall, you can bet that this M2TM will attract a lot of attention so get down for the first heat on Sunday 5th Feb at Duffy’s
Another new venue for M2TM, The Maze has took up the challenge to host this year Nottingham M2TM. Great to have such a well established venue on board after the sad demise of The Intake. Like The Arches, this great little venue is a regular date on many a bands itinery and is well equipped to host this prestigious event. The Maze has in recent years become somewhat of a legendary venue. Mixing a host of underground club nights and alternative band nights, it has become a linchpin in the ever growing music community of Nottingham city. A strong supporter of local bands, The Maze hosts regular gigs for local musicians and has had some of the UK’s finest talents grace it’s stage. Bands such as Evil Scarecrow, Lawnmower deth, Black Tongue, Black Spiders, The Algorithm have passed through the venue. Promoting the event will be IKE Productions, a local promoter well known for putting on some cracking shows in the city. Their road to Bloodstock kicks off on January 12th
Last but not least on our round up of Midlands M2TM events is The Prince of Wales in Kettering, who, along with House of Pain Promotions take up the mantle of this regions M2TM. Another popular venue for Underground metal and rock, The Prince of Wales has joined forces with the well known House of Pain to continue where The Zombie Hut in Corby left off.
