Drunken Monkey Festival comes to Upton this weekend

Drunken Monkey Festival is an all ages festival taking place in Upton between 3rd and 5th August 2018. The ever-growing Festival was launched in memory of Ian Downton, who died in 2009 after a car accident. To date, more than £25,000 has been donated to the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC).

Tickets are already selling fast for this year’s Festival, with a line up including Wizards of Oz, Pearl Jamm, Van Hailen and, hot footing it from South Africa, Gage. Check out www.drunkenmonkeyrockfest.co.uk for the full line up and tickets.

The festival heavily focuses on tribute acts, but also provides plenty of space for emerging bands playing their original material. Burnt Out Wreck headline the Tower Stage on Sunday.

One emerging band making waves are Devon based rockers Ethyrfield, who play the main stage on Sunday. World-renowned Black Sabbath icon Tony Iommi has become unofficial mentor to the teenage three-piece, whose drummer was just 10 when they formed four years ago. Tony clicked with lead guitarist Ben Cornish, now 16, when the legendary luminary did one to one sessions with the finalists in the 2015 Sky Arts Guitar Star TV show.

The Ethyrfield line up is completed by fellow Devon teenager Dan Aston, now 14. All three are grade 8 musicians and live in Newton Abbot.

Also playing are Gloucestershire metal band We Come From Ashes, alternative rockers This Elegant Chaos, London based hard rock band Lilith & The Knight and melodic rockers Reece.
