In late November 2018, Wolverhampton-based Black Country Recording Company‘s studio was entirely destroyed overnight by fire.
Black Country Recording Company was an idiosyncratic recording studio, rehearsal room, and instrument reparation and creation space, located in one of the old manufacturing hubs of Wolverhampton. The studio was conceived and hand-built by Jimm Zorn – optimising and utilising the vast old factory space he moved into in 2016.
Jimm lost not only the structure that he had been renovating for the last three years, but every piece of recording and musical equipment that he had acquired through his lifetime – and the bands who used the space as their rehearsal room (WMN and The Double Happy) lost all of their amps, drums, pedals, merch and instruments.
The studio was more than just a recording and rehearsal space though – it was a hub for DIY gigs, exhibitions and a much-needed place of congregation for musicians and artists in Wolverhampton.
Local promoters DIE DAS DER have been working with Jimm for the last year and a half – hosting gigs in the studio space, and using the studio to record releases for their label. Because of this close affiliation DIE DAS DER are running several fund-raising activities to help Jimm as he strives to rebuild the studio from scratch in a new location, and to help the bands who lost their gear in the fire.
DIE DAS DER had always planned to release a compilation of live tracks recorded at the two gigs that took place at the studio in 2018 – unfortunately, the full recordings from those gigs were also lost in the fire.
But a thorough search of Jimm’s cloud turned up early mixes of 5 of the 6 bands involved, and thus it is that they have released “Black Country Afternoon Delights #1” – a CD featuring highlights of the live BLKCORECCO sets from local stalwarts The Double Happy, A Pig Called Eggs, Ghosts of Dead Airplanes, WAX FUTURES and Fauxchisels.
The album is available to buy now on download and CD (presented in full colour digipack) – immediate download with both options.
All profits from this release go straight to Jimm and the affected bands. We highly recommend you head over to the link below and buy a copy (or two) now – not only does it support a great local cause, but it’s a proper bostin’ set of songs too!
