Stirring and solemn, hypnotic and mesmerising…
Released by Ritual Productions on 4 May 2018 and reviewed by Jason Guest
Metaphysical and mega physical in both weight and volume, psychedelic doom trio Bong are back with album number six, Thought and Existence. This is a voyage into the ever-expanding universe, the cosmos and all of its wonders and mysteries played out for the listener in two colossal tracks clocking in at just under 40 minutes.
The deep space resonates with a near-tangible yet ever-evasive otherworldly ether, both ‘The Golden Fields’ and ‘Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius’ evolving in a dark, shimmering light. Sublimely textured and penetrating in their might, they are imposing tracks, their weight resplendent and their progression transcendent.
Mystical, meditative and ritualistic, to listen to this is to step into the imagination, to step outside of time and abandon oneself to realms unexplored and all the glories held within. Stirring and solemn, hypnotic and mesmerising , Bong take us to the brink of the darkness that surrounds us, the darkness that will one day engulf us, the darkness that is us and urge us to recognise and embrace the nothingness in all its spiritual wonder…
